MIDNIGHT SUN Jockeyed by Terri Lane
UNICORN HORN DIRT MILE Workout
UNICORN HORN DIRT MILE Workout
A new year had started and Midnight Sun had matured into a beautiful 4 year old. Last year she shined placing in the So Sassy Sprint and winning the Shining stakes a leg of the Turf Sprint Tiara which was a amazing to any horses record. Her last race was back in the third week of December of 2013 when she placed in the End of year Dirt Sprint. Terri Lane was her jockey and the two bonded well and Night enjoyed the girl on her back. Already ready for her workout for this race of a six horse field. "Hey Night are you ready girl?" She said watching the mare nicker towards her arrival.
The Unicorn Horn series has approached and Midnight Sun was running in the Unicorn Horn Dirt mile where she would be facing horses such as Ventura, Mastermind, Sweetness Unlimited, Jazzaway, and Aquatic Addiction. All horses were great for this field and it would be a tough one indeed. The black mare trotted to the start doing what she was told by Terri who only swished the whip by her withers so she knew it was there. Night stood at the full 17 hands and my she had the stamina in her she also progressed with speed as she ran along the sprinter's mark. She wasn't afraid to push smaller horses out of her way using her aggression to strike fear in others. In most cases it didn't work if they shared her temperament.
Coming up to the starting furlong pole, Terri clicked her tongue to move the mare along to a relaxing gallop before she immediately bolted away to a normal run feeling the wind hit her nostrils, Night snorted like a blow horn through her nose. She was a monster in disguise and she would want to prove it on the track against these other horses. Midnight Sun ran 5-8 Furlongs while some ran longer and more proportioned then herself. Terri would refuse for Night to give up and if they would stay out here all day they would however that was not the case. Sweat began to build up on the mare as she approached the back stretch with hasty breaths.
Would her Turf Sprint Tiara winning be enough? Terri would bring her to the top. While not having a workout with the last few races this workout would be a relief to the mare as she grew angry waiting in the stalls for her turn to show off her massive size to the crowd. She would soon be coming back to the tracks more frequently and she would hold her faith that her fourth year would be even greater then last years. Approaching mid-way of the back stretch Midnight Sun began to pick up more speed moving along with the tracks time and pace. Terri was beyond scared to even be on the back of a mare this height but managed for her chance at another victory.
Pulling along the final turn Night moved her strides at a monstrous length gaining more track with her stamina at bay she did gain more speed with each pulling stride she yearned for to the wire. Terri felt nothing wrong here Midnight Sun still moved the same fierce way as her heart desired from wire to wire not wanting to stop. This mare had won a leg of the Turf Sprint Tiara, The Summer Cup Grade five dirt sprint and others. She was considered a mare to watch at least in Terri's mind that was. Walking her off the track she wrapped the comfort blanket over her back to keep her warm and headed back to the stalls to await the results of race day.
